Woogie Boogie By The Ukulele Sunshine Kids (Sabah Concert 2013)

 

Let's  enjoy the Woogie Boogie from the Ukulele Sunshine Kids from Kuala Lumpur. All the children were trained in Musikgarten Program as early as 9 months old, a program conducted by Teacher Kelly. As they trained from young,  these kids  have had a very good ears for music and they picked up the ukulele instrument at ease.

This is their first trip to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah and the kids had a good time.  Next year(2014), a few of the kids will be going to Japan for a homestay program and also ukulele performing.

Charity Luncheon for Orphans & Old Folks

Our PPMUM having fun with the Charity Luncheon organised by Yayasan Nanyang Press where the members mingled with the orphans and the elderly. We shared our ukuleles playing with the kids and performed two songs too at the end of the luncheon. A memorable day for all of us. Little did we realized that the Luncheon flyers actually were dolphins too!

Rasa Sayang @ Ukulele Concert Nite - Sabah 2013

One of the highlights of the Sabah Ukulele Concert Nite was the BIG GROUP JAMMING on Rasa Sayang.  The Ukulele  Sunshine Group and Keys to Music Ukulele  Group dressed in colourful costumes depicting the difference culture of Malaysia singing together with the Sabah Ukulele Group i.e Orkes Akiuku. It was a memorable not only in sight as well as the whole atmosphere.  The lyrics that we sang were also specially written for this concert.  We exchanged the first two verses and then  sang together the last three verses.
这沙巴的四弦琴音乐会最令大家难忘的是大集团的合唱。我们唱了一首每个人很熟悉的Rasa Sayang.乌克里里阳光集团员和Keys to Music 的四弦琴集团员为了这首歌而身着五颜六色的服装来描绘马来西亚各族文化。快乐的歌曲把整个场面带来了欢乐的气氛。我们唱的歌词也是特意为这场音乐会而写的。我们交换了前两节，然后后三节大家一起唱。

The Orkes Akiuku - Ukulele Sabah Group @ Ukulele Concert Nite Sabah 2013

Looking at this photograph, one could feel the vibrant team from the "Land Below the Wind" i.e the famous Sabah ukulele group by the name of Orkes Akiuku formed  in the year of 2009.

3 months before the ukulele concert, kelly made a trip to Sabah in April and met up a few of the members from the group and invited the group to be the Guest for the Ukulele Concert Nite on Saturday 1 June 2013.

The Orkes Akiuku performed two songs entitled "One Love" & "White Night". Their "One Love" song was their first mini ukulele album launched in May 2012 and had garnered 10,000 over viewership at the youtube.  The Kuala Lumpur participants were fortunate to be able to watch the Orkes Akiuku performing life with this song.

在乌克里里音乐会的前3个月那就是四月份，kelly 去拜访了几个位Orkes Akiuku组成员并邀请他们担任六月一曰乌克里里音乐会的表演嘉宾。

The Sabah Blog will need to break down in a few blogs in order to highlight the ukulele players from various group. This blog is to dedicate to the new students whom had taken up the ukulele playing in April 2013 when kelly made a trip to Sabah to conduct a basic ukulele course for them.  The students are from the Keys to Music Studio.  The presented two interesting songs entitled The Lion King sleeps tonite and Sayang Sayang Kinabalu.  Watched out for one little girl Caelan Sham (4 1/2 years old) with her cute voice.

Ukuleles Travels to Sabah (30th May - 2nd June 2013)

The initial plan for the home stay program for the Sabah Ukulele trip turned out to be a family trips as it was a school holiday. Furthermore, the ukulele group that had been set up in Sabah is still in its infant stage. Our Sabah friends are not ready to host the group from Kuala Lumpur. Total of 17 adults and 8 children from Kuala Lumpur booked their flight as early as February to prepare for yet another educational ukulele trip.

In conjunction with the tour, kelly also made an arrangement for Mr TC Chew to fly from Penang to Kota Kinabalu to conduct beginner and intermediate workshops for the music school, namely, Keys to Music Studio.  

The highlight of the trip was the first Ukulele Concert held at the mini theater, Marina Club on Saturday 1 June 2013. The participants were the Ukulele Sunshine Group, Keys to Music Studio Ukulele Group and invited Guest, Mr TC Chew as well as the Orkes Akiuku Group which is the established Sabah Ukulele Group.

Beside the concert, a surprised birthday party also was held specially for a member from the Ukulele Sunshine Group, Tiow Lyn Xuan, as her birthday falls on Friday 31 May 2013.  A special ukulele shaped cake was being carried all the way from KL to Sabah for her special day. 

We have a very fruitful and educational trip for all the Ukulele Sunshine Group.  Let's strum for knowledge and friendships.

 沙巴四弦琴之旅的原本计划是家庭住宿之旅。刚好是学校假期，这沙巴四弦琴之旅变成了一个大家庭之旅游。此外，已在沙巴州设立的尤克里里琴组仍处于起步阶段，我们的沙巴的朋友还没能准备迎接我们住宿他们的家。吉隆坡的家长们早在2月前订了机票而为这教育之旅作准备。我们一共有17名成人和8名儿童。
 
为了这 沙巴四弦琴之旅，Kelly 安排了TC Chew 先生从槟城飞往哥打京那巴鲁在一所学院进行初级和中级的课程。

这沙巴之旅的特点是我们在迷你剧院，游艇俱乐部（6月1曰星期六）开了我们的第一个四弦琴音乐会.当晚表演者是我们四弦琴阳光成员们和Key to Music Studio 的尤克里里琴集团，并邀请了TC Chew 先生，以及 Orkes Akiuku集团（沙巴四弦琴集团）为我们的嘉宾。

除了演唱会，我们也为了一位团员Tiow Lyn Xuan举行了一个惊讶的生日派对，因为她的生日是在2013年5月31日（星期五）。还把一个特殊的四弦琴形蛋糕从吉隆坡带到沙巴。

 我们的尤克里里团员有一个非常丰富和教育之旅。来让我们一起为知识和友谊而弹。

Ukulele Sunshine Group Travels to Penang (28/3/2013 - 31/3/2013)

 Earlier this year at the countdown to 2013 New Year, a few of us made our Wishes. I hope the Ukulele Group could  travel  places for exchange of friendship. It seems the Wish is slowly being realized.

According to our plan, the first leg of our  trip is to go to Sabah in May.  A twist of fate that the news of Hawaiian Ukulele Master, Mr Kimo Hussey will perform and conduct workshops in Penang on 28/3/2013 - 30/3/2013.  Kelly decided to organize and bring the children  to attend the ukulele concert and workshops. What surprised us was the Ukulele Sunshine Group was being invited to perform as pre event concert at Mr Kimo's Solo Concert. It was an added bonus to us all.
 
 今年为迎接2013年新年的倒计时，我们几个人都许了我们的愿望。我希望四弦琴集团能前往各地方进行友谊和交流.看来我的愿望慢慢的实现.

根据我们的计划，四弦琴阳光集团旅行的第一站，是在5月份前往沙巴. 很意外的获知夏威夷四弦琴奇摩赫西先生会在28/3/2013来槟城执行和进行研讨会的消息。Kelly决定组织和携带孩子出席这场难得的演唱会和研讨会. 更令我们高兴的是在奇摩赫西的音乐会，我们被邀请来表演。

Mr TC Chew from Penang - The Organiser for Mr Kimo Hussey's Solo Concert （TC Chew 先生－ 奇摩赫西先生独奏音乐会的负责人）

The blog on the Ukulele Sunshine Group to Penang for Mr Kimo Hussey's Solo Concert and Workshops is coming to an end.   However...there is one gentleman that i would like to write before closing up the blog  and moving on with others blogs of events.

This gentleman's name is Mr TC Chew whom had organised for Mr Kimo Hussey's first visit to Malaysia. 

A short biodata of Mr TC Chew is as follows :-

"Mr TC Chew founded the first online ukulele business in Malaysia in year 2010.  His company -Manuel Ukulele (Penang) has the largest ukuleles selection in Malaysia.

Mr TC Chew had personally coached, trained and taught  more than 700 adults and children in Penang since 2006.  His dream is to see more ukulele players in Malaysia.  He believes that not everyone wants to be a pro musician but definitely everyone could just have fun with the this beautiful instrument."

Mr TC Chew gave up his well paid engineering career to focus on promoting the ukulele.  I was touched by his passion in ukuleles as well as his humble personality and his sincerity.

TC Chew先生放弃他高薪的工程生涯，而杠了这份四弦琴（乌克丽丽）教导生涯并专注于促进乌克里里。我对他在乌克丽丽浓浓的热诚, 他谦虚的性格和真挚的心是那麽的令人敬佩。

Mr Kimo Hussey indeed is the truly Master of Ukulele....Was totally amazed and astonished to hear Mr Kimo's playing the ukulele creating layering of sounds that just came out from the fingers' strumming & playing. The two fingers technique developed by Mr Kimo is so unique and yet the layering of sounds created as though there are few others were playing along. On top of the unique technique, the dynamic presented by Mr Kimo was in such a control manner that drawn the attention and emotion of audiences into his music.

夏威夷奇摩赫西先生的确是位真正的四弦琴大师.....很惊讶地听到奇摩先生的尤克里里演奏的声音。 只是二根手指的演奏却发出分层的音乐。好像是有多位表演者一起玩。 这独特两根手指技术是由奇摩先生本身发明的。奇摩赫西先生的表情和他玩的大小声-控制得非常好。。这也是吸引观众的注意力和情感。来我们一起来欣赏奇摩赫西先生的美妙音乐。

Mr David Chen's Crazy G at Penang Wawasan Open University (2013)

Two months gone past since attending Mr Kimo's Fist Ukulele Solo Concert at Penang Wawasan Open University on Thursday 28/4/2013. The blog will not complete without mentioning a special Guest whom is Mr Kimo's student from Taiwan. Mr Kimo mentioned to the workshop participants that he has two Chinese Students that is Mr David Chen from Taiwan and the other is Mr TC Chew from Penang, Malaysia. We，especialy the children, were very excited to watch Mr David Chen at Mr Kimo's Concert.  Beside being a ukulele instructor to many corporate bodies and music therapeutic teacher, Mr David Chen is also the President of Taiwan International Ukulele Association. The following were the pictures of showing our enthusiasm on meeting up with Mr David Chen. 两个月又很快的过了。。我在槟城宏愿开放大学28/4/2013（星期四）出席了奇摩先生的四弦琴独奏音乐会。很高兴的看到了一位表演贵宾。 写了这为大人物，我的部洛克才算完整。这位是一个特殊的来宾， 他就是台湾的陈建延先生。奇摩先生曾在与克丽丽的研讨会提到他有两位华裔学生，一个是来自台湾的David Chen 先生，另一位就是马来西亚槟城的TC Chew先生。 我们大家， 尤其是孩子们， 都很兴奋的能在奇摩先生音乐会目睹陈建延先生的风采。。除了当任许多企业社团的四弦琴老师和音乐治疗师，陈建延先生也是台湾国际四弦琴协会主席。 以下的照片可见的我们对陈建延先生的那份热情。。。

Mr Kimo Hussey's Solo Concert & Workshop in Penang (28-30 March 28/3/2013)

It was by chance that i came across the news of Hawaiian Ukulele Master - Mr Kimo Hussey's Solo Concert in Penang as well as his workshops from the facebook home page in February 2013.  Not letting the opportunity to slip by, i immediately got in touch with Mr TC Chew from Manuel Ukulele for more details.  Mr Kimo Hussey was making his first debut of solo concert in Penang on Thursday 28/4/2013 at Penang Wawasan Open University as well as conducting a series of  both beginners and intermediate workshops. The parents of the Ukulele Sunshine Children were very supportive of their kids going for the concert as well as attending the workshops. Altogether total of 30 of us from KL were making our first Ukulele outing to Penang.

在一个偶然的机会，我在面子书得知夏威夷四弦琴大師 - 奇摩赫西先生會在檳岛表演四弦琴独奏音樂会。不要讓機會溜走，我立刻與TC Chew 先生 联络更多的細節。28/4/2013（星期四）是奇摩赫西先生在马来西亚的第一次亮相的獨奏音樂會， 地点是在檳城宏願開放大學。 除了表演，奇摩先生也会進行一系列的初學者和中級四弦琴 研討會。四弦琴陽光兒童的父母都非常支持自己的孩子去看奇摩先生的演唱會和出席他的研討會。我们一共有30位從吉隆坡开车到檳城， 也是我們四弦琴组合 的第一個郊遊。

It was a great experience for the children to watch the Master from Hawaii in action.  The workshop was very informative and our children were very attentive. Not only we were able to watch Mr Kimo Hussey, we were also fortunate to watch David Chen, the President of Ukulele Taiwan Festival as well as Ukulele Instructor from Taiwan.  It was an added bonus for us all.  On top of that, all of us were so happy to meet up with Mr TC Chew, the organiser of the show, a humble gentleman whom passion in ukulele could drown every one that meet him. Giving up his well paid job as an engineer, Mr TC Chew had groomed more than 600 people into playing the ukuleles for the past six years.
孩子们不但观看了一场精彩的表演。也在这次研讨会获得非常丰富的知识。这一次不仅我们能够来观看奇摩先生赫西，我们也有幸的看到台湾著名的四弦琴导师David Chen. 我们也很高兴的见到TC Chew 先生, 他是这音乐会的主办单位者。这位工程师放弃他高薪的工作，扛起了四弦琴的教导工作。过去七年，已经教了超过700个四弦琴爱好者。

To top it all, the Ukulele Sunshine Group was being invited to perform as per event concert.  We performed our opening song Aloha, followed by It's a small World.  Then our Lyn Xuan, Yung Juin and Shen Ny Hau were plucking their song El Condo Passa to the delight of the audiences before we closed our performance with our signature song You're my Sunshine.  Appreciation to our Pianist Ms Nicole Yap for her piano accompaniment.  Thanks to everyone....it was an unforgettable experience for every one of us.

更庆幸的是四弦琴阳光组合也被邀请在这演唱会表演。谢谢大家.这是一个难忘的经历。

Ukulele Sunshine Group at klpac Spring Concert (Sunday 17.3.2013)

On Sunday 17.3.2013, the Ukulele Sunshine Group was being invited to perform as a pre-event concert for klpac Orchestra Group for their Spring Concert 2013.  The program for the afternoon performance were as follows :-

 We mingled around the very sporting crowds with our new song Jambalaya  Our little drummer Felix kept the tempo so steady.  It was the first time for Felix to tap the tambourine for us. We believe one day Felix will grow up to be a very fine drummer for he is now taking drum lesson.

 As usual, we have a group photographs with all the members and family members for a great pic for memory down the lane in future.

We would like to thank klpac for inviting the Ukulele Sunshine Group to perform.  Also appreciation to our pianist Mr Clement Wong for accompanying the group and most importantly, the sporting crowds with their clapping to keep our spirit high.
