"STRUM WITH ME" Project - Part 1
The poster for "STRUM WITH ME" project was launched on 8 October 2015.
Besides the Health-Care personnel, many people especially in Malaysia may not aware that Thursday 8 October 2015 is the WORLD SIGHT DAY with theme #EyeCareForAll.
The founder of Malaysian Association of Love for Ukulele Music, Ms Kelly Teh stumbled upon this meaningful day while doing her research for her graduation project. Her inquisitive mind prompted her to ask the people around her about this DAY but most of the replies were met with negative answers.
In May, she walked into the building of Malaysian Association for the Blinds after having her ukulele classes at YMCA, which is nearby and met a lady called Dr Jacqueline. Kelly introduced herself and soon conversation between them lead to the Birth of this maiden Project "STRUM WITH ME".
Kelly Teh was astonished on her first meeting with Dr Jacqueline that she is actually a qualified medical doctor but her eye sights gone soon after her graduation.
Having no experience in contact or handling the blinds, not to mention, teaching them, Kelly Teh is determined to share the passion of ukulele with the Blinds. She believes that if the Ukulele is being recognized as the friendliest & easiest instrument to play, then all the blinds whether gifted or not gifted in music could easily pick up this petite instrument.
The maiden project "STRUM WITH ME" will take place on Saturday 31 October 2015 at the venue of Blinds Association. Kelly Teh wishes that this will be an annual event with the visually impaired people to create the awareness of the important of our eyesight as well as to appreciate and to lend our helping hands to the visually impaired people.
Kelly Teh first session was met with great challenge and subsequently her second session was a better when she improved her teaching material as follows :-
With also additional volunteers at hand on 2nd session, the blinds participants were enjoying with ukulele music.
Let's celebrate WORLD SIGHT DAY- #EyeCareForALL together with UKULELE to bring joy to the visually impaired and we indeed Care for ALL of THEM.
KEEP STRUMMING KEEP HEALTH GOING!
